Is it that hard to create some screenshots? Most people aren’t interested in downloading 20MB screencasts and sitting through them to see something they could figure out from five seconds of looking at a screenshot.

Thanks for Streamlined. It’s the only thing (a practical technology thing I guess) that keeps me interested in Rails.

The other project I’m tracking (and have deployed to production) is Achievo Toolkit http://atk.achievo.org/atk similar in spirit to Streamlined.

At end-user orgs there isn’t much else to do but deploy business forms with lots of widgetry (due to the low quality of the UIs that come with enterprise software, across the board, nobody wants to use what comes out of the box) and reporting (content caching critical here). Hopefully streamlined helps address that need (alternatives are always nice).

Yes, same here…

If you are using apache with fcgi to deploy, instead of webrick you receive

NameError in MoviesController#index

undefined local variable or method `acts_as_streamlined’ for MoviesController:Class

as error, but the same deal.

Fixed using EDGE release.

Ah, ha! Sorted it myself – the trick is to use the EDGE release, not the stable one suggested by this post.

I tried this and it broke. I’ve also re-created the Coffee getting started tutorial and it doesn’t work either. When I type http://localhost:3000/coffees/ into Firefox, I see the following error message:

NoMethodError in CoffeesController#index

undefined method `empty?’ for #

I tried this with 2 different apps, and both have the same problem. I’m using Rails 2.0.2 on top of PostgreSQL.

Am I doing something wrong?

So sorry … i found my problem…it really does not feel good to be a noob to something. Actually my controller had the default actions generated by scaffold. I think i shouldn’t even have commented here since this is more a support request than a comment… sorry again and thank you for strealining my ruby learning !

First, and though i haven’t yet had a chance to try it, Streamlines seems to be awfull according to your screencast! I’m quite new to rails (coming from spring maven and appfuse, which is conceptually not far from rails IMO) so please bear with me : I wanted to try streamlined. installed it and all, when i try it on my browser, “the outer things are streamlined” (streamlined layout, top menu and left one…) but the views are not. All it seem to do is wrap my views with the streamlined layout. i’m using Rails 2.0.2 ruby 1.8.6 gem 1.0.1 Here is what i did : $ rails myapp $ cd myapp

updated my config/database.yml $ script/generate scaffold Coffee name:string $ rake db:migrate $ script/server
default things are ok $ script/plugin install http://svn.streamlinedframework.org/edge/streamlined/
success added : layout “streamlined” acts_as_streamlined to coffees_controller

What’s wrong ? have i missed something ?

The selenium server JAR is used for acceptance testing in the sample Sports app. It’s mostly experimental at the moment, but we think it’s pretty cool.

If you’d like to try it out, cd into the root of the sports project, and run:

rake test:acceptance

Doing so will fire up the app, and test the app by clicking through the UI to verifying various aspects of the app’s functionality.
